Dental and Vision Insurance
You Shouldn't Have One Without the Other
OK, so there's no law that says you have to go out and buy dental and vision insurance at the same time, but it's a really smart way to do things.
More and more health plans are excluding them both
Take a close look at your health insurance policy, and you'll likely discover that both dental and vision insurance are not included. Or, if they are, it's only a tiny bit of coverage that doesn't really help you a whole lot. Even on big company-sponsored health plans, dental and vision insurance are starting to go by the wayside.
Since you need both types of coverage, it's smarter to just shop for them together. That way, you can kill two birds with one stone.
You can save money
OK, so we've established that you need both dental and vision insurance. Wouldn't it be nice to save money on both of them, too?
Luckily, that's exactly what you can do by buying them together!
Most insurance companies will give you a deal if you buy vision and dental plan insurance together. Typically, it's called "bundling". Since the insurance company knows it's going to get two premium checks from you every month, it's willing to give you a discount. That way, you can take advantage of a low cost dental plan and also make sure your next eye exam is covered.
You don't have to skimp on either
Buying your dental and vision insurance together doesn't mean that you have to cut corners on both policies. Instead, there are plenty of combo plans out there that give you all of the coverage you need in both areas.
For example, a good bundled plan might include a dental PPO plan. That way, you get all of the benefits and features of a dental PPO plan — it's just thrown in with your vision coverage.
You're more likely to work with a quality insurance company
There are some exceptions, but in most cases, the better insurance companies offer more than one type of coverage. By working with a company that offers both dental and vision insurance, you're more likely to wind up with a quality company. You'll be able to avoid the headaches that come with "fly-by-night" operations!
You'll have one-stop customer service
Have a question about your contact lens payment or your low cost dental deductible? Instead of having to call two different insurance companies (and get put on hold during two different phone calls), you'll only have to pick up the phone once.
